Understanding Wrongful Convictions in Kentucky

Wrongful convictions are a tragic reality in our justice system. In Kentucky, as in other states, innocent individuals can find themselves behind bars due to various factors, including:

  • Mistaken eyewitness identifications
  • False confessions
  • Unreliable forensic evidence
  • Prosecutorial misconduct
  • Ineffective assistance of counsel

These errors can rob innocent people of years of their lives, separate families, and erode public trust in the justice system.
